Job Description
Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour
Location: Primarily within a 30-mile radius of Plattsmouth, Nebraska
Job Summary:
Crafted Performance Homes is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Carpenter to join our young and growing team. As an Apprentice Carpenter, you will assist journeyman carpenters in various construction tasks, learn essential carpentry skills, and contribute to the building of high-quality homes. We offer a collaborative and enjoyable work environment where you can take pride in your work and continuously improve your skills. Crafted Performance Homes provides Workers' Compensation insurance as required by law.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Assisting journeyman carpenters with their tasks.
Maintaining a clean and organized job site.
Learning various carpentry skills and techniques through on-the-job training.
Preparing materials and tools for the workday.
Performing site clean-up at the end of each day.
Involvement in framing (walls, floors, roofs).
Participation in finish carpentry (trim work, doors, windows).
Assisting with deck building and repairs.
Contributing to concrete forming.
Learning drywall installation techniques.
Site preparation (e.g., clearing debris).
Material handling and organization.
Basic tool maintenance.
Apprentice Carpenters are not permitted to operate heavy machinery or company vehicles.
Qualifications and Skills:
No prior carpentry experience necessary; entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
High school diploma or GED is preferred.
Must possess a strong willingness to learn and take direction.
Ability to work well as part of a team.
Punctuality and reliability are essential.
Basic problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and a focus on quality workmanship.
Comfortable working around dogs.
Good communication skills.
Must have a reliable vehicle for daily transportation to and from the job site.
Must have a personal cell phone for communication and interaction with company forms/applications.
Work Schedule:
Typically Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed.
Standard work hours are generally 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but hours may vary depending on the specific project requirements.
Probationary Period:
New employees will be subject to a 30-day probationary period.

Tools and Equipment:
Crafted Performance Homes provides a starter tool belt, basic hand tools, and an impact driver with a bit case for Apprentice Carpenters.
All necessary power tools are provided by the employer.
Apprentices are responsible for maintaining their own personal hand tools and gradually improving/upgrading them at their own expense.
Safety:
Adherence to all company safety policies is mandatory.
Eye protection (safety glasses) and hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs) must be worn when operating power tools or in designated areas.

Mission and Philosophy: At Crafted Performance Homes, our mission is to develop skilled carpenters and build high-quality homes for homeowners. We are committed to continuous improvement in both the quality of our craftsmanship and the efficiency of our processes.
Work Environment and Culture: We foster a collaborative and enjoyable work environment where a young, small group of carpenters can take pride in their work. We encourage a culture of continuous learning and strive to elevate the standards of residential construction.
Company History: Crafted Performance Homes was founded in 2021 by an individual with a background in architectural engineering (mechanical design for commercial buildings). The transition to residential remodeling was driven by a passion for carpentry, a desire for hands-on work, and a vision to make a significant positive impact on the quality of homes built for homeowners. We began with residential remodeling and are actively growing into new home construction and large-scale remodeling projects.
2. Employment Policies

At-Will Employment (Nebraska): Employment with Crafted Performance Homes is on an at-will basis, meaning that either the employee or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice. This handbook is not a contract of employment, and no statement in this handbook should be interpreted to create any promise of continued employment.
Employee Classifications: Currently, we do not have different employee classifications.
3. Payroll and Timekeeping
Pay Period: Employees are paid every other Friday.
Overtime Pay: The standard payroll period is two weeks. Overtime will be paid at one and one-half times the employee's regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of 80 hours within a two-week pay period. Overtime must be authorized by a supervisor.
Deductions from Pay: Standard deductions will be made from each paycheck for applicable federal, state, and local taxes, as required by law. Other deductions may be made as authorized by the employee or required by law.
Time Tracking: Employees are required to accurately record their daily work hours and the tasks completed using Google Forms.
Timesheet Review: This time tracking information is compiled and viewable by employees via a shared Google Sheet. Employees are expected to regularly review this Google Sheet to ensure the accuracy of their recorded hours, the correct job name, and a clear description of the work performed.
Employee Benefits: Specific details regarding employee benefits will be outlined in individual employment agreements.
4. Work Hours, Attendance, and Time Off
Typical Work Hours: Employees typically work between 70 to 85 hours per payroll period, with a standard start time of 7:00 AM. Workdays often range from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM. On occasion, work may extend until approximately 7:00 PM as needed to complete tasks.
Punctuality and Attendance: Punctuality and consistent attendance are essential for the smooth operation of our job sites. If an employee anticipates being late or unable to work, they must communicate this to their direct supervisor as soon as possible (e.g., via phone call or text message). Failure to notify a supervisor of an absence or lateness will result in a written warning.
Employee Absences: Supervisors must be notified as soon as possible in the event of an absence. Crafted Performance Homes maintains a "three-strike" policy for "no call, no show" absences, regardless of the circumstances. Three such instances will result in immediate termination of employment.
Paid Vacation Time and Paid Sick Leave: Specific details regarding paid vacation time and paid sick leave will be outlined in individual employment agreements.
Holidays: Paid holidays will be determined and outlined in individual employment agreements.
5. Conduct and Performance Expectations
General Conduct: We expect all employees to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully on job sites and in all interactions related to Crafted Performance Homes.
Intoxication: Reporting to work or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while on the job is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination.
Social Media and Client Relations: Any form of negative or disparaging comments about clients, Crafted Performance Homes, or its employees posted online or shared publicly is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination.
Performance Evaluation: Employee performance will be monitored by comparing the time taken to complete tasks (as recorded in the timesheets) against industry benchmarks and internal data.
Disciplinary Actions: Disciplinary actions may be taken for violations of company policy, misconduct, or unsatisfactory performance. Examples of infractions that could lead to disciplinary action include, but are not limited to: failure to follow safety procedures, unexcused lateness or absenteeism, insubordination, theft or misuse of company property, and violation of the intoxication or social media policies. Disciplinary actions may range from verbal warnings to written warnings, suspension, or termination, depending on the severity and frequency of the infraction.
Termination of Employment: Employment may be terminated by either the employee or Crafted Performance Homes at any time, as outlined in the "At-Will Employment" section. Crafted Performance Homes reserves the right to terminate employment for cause or for any other legitimate business reason.
6. Safety and Health
Safety Procedures and Rules: Safety is a top priority at Crafted Performance Homes. Employees are required to adhere to the following key safety procedures and rules on all job sites:
Eye protection (safety glasses) must be worn when operating power tools or in areas where there is a risk of flying debris.
Hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs) must be worn when operating loud power tools.
Reporting Work-Related Injuries or Accidents: In the event of a work-related injury or accident, the immediate priority is to ensure the injured individual receives necessary care. Following immediate care, the employee must notify their direct supervisor as soon as possible to report the incident.
Drug and Alcohol Use: As stated previously, the use, possession, or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while on the job is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination.
7. Tools and Equipment
Apprentice Carpenter Tools: Crafted Performance Homes provides apprentice carpenters with a starter tool belt, basic hand tools, and an impact driver with a bit case to get them started.
Employer-Provided Power Tools: All necessary power tools required for job completion are provided by Crafted Performance Homes.
Employee Responsibility for Personal Tools: Apprentice carpenters and experienced carpenters are responsible for maintaining their own personal hand tools. Personal tools are defined as the tools typically carried on their tool belt or person. Employees are also expected to gradually improve and upgrade their personal tools based on their individual preferences and needs, at their own expense.
8. Technology and Communication
Company Provided Technology: Currently, employees are expected to utilize their personal cell phones for the purpose of completing daily timesheets and communicating work schedules with their supervisors.
Communication Expectations: Supervisors will typically communicate the next day's meeting time and location (if different from the usual) at the end of the workday or the evening before. Employees are expected to check their phones regularly for any schedule updates or important communications.
9. Additional Information
Dog-Friendly Workplace: Please be aware that the owner frequently brings their dog to work sites. All employees must be comfortable working in the presence of dogs.
Commuting and Mileage: Employees are expected to commute to job sites within a 30-mile radius of Plattsmouth, Nebraska. For any job site located outside this 30-mile radius, employees will be compensated at a rate of $0.55 per mile for the distance exceeding the initial 30-mile radius.
